The story of Lamy begins in 1930, when Josef Lamy, a former sales director at Parker, founded the company in Heidelberg.
At the time, the focus was on quality craftsmanship, with early designs influenced heavily by the American fountain pens of the era. However, it wasn’t until the 1960s that Lamy truly carved out its distinctive identity in the world of stationery. In 1966, the launch of the now-iconic Lamy 2000 marked a pivotal moment—not just for the brand, but for modern pen design as a whole. Designed by renowned German designer Gerd A. Müller, the Lamy 2000 was a revolutionary departure from ornate, traditional pen styles. With its clean Bauhaus-inspired lines and pioneering use of materials like Makrolon and stainless steel, it became a symbol of contemporary writing culture.
